We’ve added new solar power plants to our portfolio of renewable and clean energy resources in Michigan's Lower Peninsula.

Project #1


Grand Valley State University

Located on GVSU’s Allendale Campus, South of Pierce Avenue near 48th Avenue.

  • 17-acre site contains 11,200 solar panels

  • Generates up to 3 mega-watts of electricity

  • Largest community solar project in the state of Michigan

  • Construction completed in the spring of 2016

  • Operations began in April 2016

  • Innovation at work − construction of our solar power plant at Grand Valley State University.
  • Working through the winter for spring production.
  • Solar panel installation underway.
  • Spring blooms and the new solar power plant went live on April 18, 2016.
  • Ribbon cutting ceremony.
  • Our crew of experienced technicians perform routine maintenance checks.

Project #2


Western Michigan University

Located on WMU’s Kalamazoo campus at the Business, Technology and Research Park.

  • Approximately 3,900 solar panels were installed on 8.5 acres of land

  • Generates up to 1 mega-watt of electricity

  • Construction completed in the summer of 2016

  • Operations began in August 2016

  • Construction of the 1MW solar power plant at Western Michigan University.
  • It takes a team of skilled and experienced people to deliver innovative solar energy solutions.
  • Working to bring our second Solar Gardens power plant to Michigan.
  • In-ground infrastructure is installed.
  • Project leader reviews site plan with team member.
  • The 1MW Solar Gardens site is complete.

Project #3


Cadillac

  • Located in the city of Cadillac

  • Approximately 1,752 solar panels being installed on 2.77 acres of repurposed brownfield land (The first Consumers Energy “Brownfield” to “Brightfield” project)

  • Will generate up to ½ mega-watt of electricity

  • Site will incorporate an 885 kWh DC battery storage system

  • Operations began in June 2021

  • Seeded with pollinator-friendly habitat

  • Conduit layout based on the survey of the site. The flags show the trenching plan, and the placement of the racking pole locations.
